From 23 to 25 January 2024, the team met at the University of Glasgow for a training workshop held in the Advanced Research Centre and the Adam Smith Building. The workshop objectives were to bring the core team together at the end of the preparatory phase, review progress and prepare for fieldwork and data collection.
Participants came from the University of Glasgow (Dominic Pasura, Nomatter Sande, Sarah Kazira, Angela Malle), the University of Zimbabwe (Ezra Chitando, Reggemore Marongedze), the University of Calabar (Dodeye Williams, Ntongha Ikpi), and the University of Pretoria (Bernard Matolino, Sibusisiwe Mlambo). Guest trainers were Sarah Weakley and Eleanor Macpherson.
Sessions covered project background and milestones, decolonising religion and methodologies, concepts of religion and migration, religion and politics in Africa, researching migration and religion, methods and ethics, multi-sited ethnography, youth-centred interviews, reflections from pilot fieldwork, approaches to data analysis and NVivo, data protection, management, sharing and archiving, impact planning through a moving and interactive exhibition and publication strategy.
