On 17 July 2024 in Lagos, RASTAY and the Youth Care Project (YCP) hosted a workshop on the “Influence of Religion and Migration on Mental Health of Left-Behind Youths in Nigeria.” Participants included the PI (University of Glasgow), Nigeria PDRA Ntongha Ikpi, YPAG member Taiwo Adeniyi, the YCP Executive Director and staff, and 25 young people aged 15–35.
The programme opened with an introduction to RASTAY and its focus on religion, migration and youth. The YCP Executive Director presented on the “Psychosocial and Mental Health Impact of Migration on Left-Behind Youth in Nigeria.” The Principal Assistant Registrar from the University of Lagos followed with “Emotional and Behavioral Problems of Left-Behind Youth in Nigeria.”
After the presentations, participants discussed links between religious life, migration, and youth wellbeing. The session outlined areas for further dialogue with community partners and created contacts for future engagement with left-behind youths.
